The Bali Vegan Festival has emerged as one of Ubud’s most eagerly anticipated annual events — a three-day celebration of plant-based living that reflects Ubud’s position as one of the world’s great wellness destinations. The festival combines exceptional food with education, community, and genuine fun, attracting participants from across Bali’s growing health-conscious community alongside international visitors.

Ubud is arguably the ideal global setting for a vegan festival. The town sits at the heart of some of Bali’s most fertile agricultural land, surrounded by organic farms producing extraordinary diversity of tropical fruits, vegetables, and legumes. The Balinese culinary tradition includes a remarkable range of naturally vegan dishes — temple food (nasi tumpeng) is traditionally prepared without meat or fish as a mark of purity. The local food culture provides a natural foundation for creative vegan cooking.

The food component of the festival is outstanding. Over 30 stalls from Bali’s best plant-based restaurants, cafes, and home cooks present their signature dishes across a dedicated outdoor market. Tasting plates are reasonably priced to encourage exploration, and the range of cuisines represented — Indonesian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Mexican, and more — ensures that every dietary preference is well served.

Cooking demonstrations by celebrated plant-based chefs run throughout each day on a purpose-built demonstration stage. Past workshops have covered Indonesian tempeh and tofu preparation, raw food techniques, fermentation and probiotic foods, and Ayurvedic cooking aligned with Balinese seasonal principles.

The wellness programme includes yoga classes, breathwork sessions, panel discussions on food sustainability, and presentations by nutritional scientists. A children’s programme featuring garden-to-table cooking activities runs in parallel with the adult events.
