Nusa Penida Day Trip: Kelingking & Angel Billabong

Nusa Penida is Bali’s most visually dramatic neighbouring island — a rugged, elevated limestone plateau rising steeply from the Indian Ocean, with sea cliffs so sheer and beaches so perfect they look like digital renders. Our full-day trip combines Penida’s three most breathtaking sites into one unforgettable adventure.

The first stop is Kelingking Beach — home to the famous T-Rex cliff viewpoint, one of the most shared images on social media in all of Southeast Asia. Standing at the cliff edge, you look down a near-vertical 100-metre drop to a pristine white sand beach that is almost entirely inaccessible, guarded on all sides by towering limestone walls. The aquamarine water below is so vivid it seems artificial. The more adventurous can descend the steep, challenging trail to the beach itself; for everyone else, the viewpoint alone is worth the journey.

Angel Billabong is a natural rock pool at the ocean’s edge — an irregular oval of clear, still water that fills directly from the Indian Ocean, creating what appears to be a natural infinity pool. At low tide, the water is warm and calm enough to swim in, and the surrounding rock formations create a cathedral-like atmosphere. The light plays differently here at every hour, making it endlessly photogenic.

Broken Beach (Pantai Batu Bolong) is a natural land bridge forming a perfect circle above the open sea — the ocean flows through the arch below, creating a protected natural pool where reef sharks and manta rays are regularly spotted. It is one of the most extraordinary geological formations in all of Indonesia.

The fast boat crossing takes approximately 45 minutes from Sanur, with an air-conditioned transport van on the island. Lunch is served at a local warung with views across the Bali Strait. Comfortable shoes with good grip are essential.
