The Bali Half Marathon has established itself as one of Southeast Asia’s most scenically spectacular running events — a 21.1km course through the green heart of Gianyar regency that takes participants past rice paddies, ancient temples, village markets, and tropical forest in a sequence of views that makes you want to stop running and simply stare.

The race begins in the cool early morning hours before 6am, when the Balinese countryside is at its most beautiful — mist rising from the rice fields, roosters calling from distant compounds, and the first golden light illuminating the forested hills above the course. Temperature at race start is typically between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, with humidity that makes proper hydration crucial.

The course is certified and largely flat in its first half, following rural roads through traditional villages whose residents line the route offering enthusiastic support, pandan leaf offerings, and sometimes fresh coconut water to passing runners. Children in school uniforms cheer from the roadside with a warmth that consistently moves international participants. The second half introduces some rolling hills as the route climbs slightly toward the finish area.

Aid stations are positioned every 2.5km and stocked with water, isotonic drinks, bananas, and local snacks. Medical support is stationed throughout the route. The finish area features a post-race celebration with traditional Balinese music, local food stalls, and a culture program that makes the event a genuine festival rather than simply a race.

Categories include competitive elite, age-group, and fun run options. A 10km and 5km community run are held alongside the half marathon, making the event accessible to participants of all fitness levels. International participants receive post-race certificates of completion suitable for Boston Marathon qualification tracking.
