Jimbaran Seafood Sunset Dinner

Few dining experiences in the world match the simple perfection of a Jimbaran seafood dinner. Tables are set directly on the sand of one of Bali’s most beautiful crescent bays, where the calm water reflects the last colours of the sunset and traditional fishing boats bob gently at anchor. The air carries the mingled scent of sea salt, charcoal smoke, and frangipani.

The seafood tradition of Jimbaran Bay dates from the 1970s, when local fishing families began serving their daily catch directly on the beach to the first generation of Bali visitors. Today the beachfront is lined with dozens of establishments ranging from humble warungs to more elegant restaurants, all sharing the same essential ingredients: ultra-fresh seafood, open charcoal grills, and an incomparable natural setting.

Your meal begins with the selection of your seafood from ice-filled displays at the restaurant entrance — whole fish, tiger prawns, lobster, crab, squid, and clams, all purchased by weight and sold at the day’s market price. Recommended choices include the local jimbaran snapper, sweet mud crab, and the enormous tiger prawns that Jimbaran is particularly known for. Everything is grilled over coconut-husk charcoal and served with a choice of traditional Balinese sambal sauces alongside steamed rice and fresh vegetable sides.

The natural spectacle of sunset over the bay — colours moving from gold through pink to deep purple as the first stars appear — accompanies your meal with a show that no restaurant in the world could replicate.
